In 2001, the love affair began. Emily Fredrickson opened her new trombone case with tears of excitement in her eyes and never looked back. Her artistic pursuits since then have been numerous and fulfilling, leading her on a unique career path that is truly headed in a bold direction.
Since attending a Tommy Dorsey big band concert at age ten, she dedicated her studies to the art of jazz music. She completed her undergraduate degree at the Florida State University in 2012, graduating Summa Cum Laude and studying under the likes of Leon Anderson, Paul McKee, Marcus Roberts, and many other prominent figures in jazz. She moved to New Orleans in 2012 to pursue her master’s degree in arts administration and to develop her blossoming career in music. She currently plays with Irvin Mayfield and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, and is the first woman to be a regular member in the orchestra’s ten years of existence.
Emily is passionate about swing, the legacy of jazz music, and living an improvisatory lifestyle that fosters inspiration and self expression. She hopes to one day open a non-profit community school for improvisatory arts that blends many arts and business communities into one thriving center for creativity and revolutionary progress.
